A Willing Heart
There it is again! a willing heart… As I was reading my Bible this morning, I came once again to one of my favourite portions of God’s Word, Exodus 35. Moses was given instructions for the building of the tabernacle, the unique “tent” which would serve as a meeting place for God and Israel. It would be the focal point of Israel’s national and spiritual life for years to come.
Moses had been given precise plans and instructions as to how this tabernacle was to be built and operated. All that was needed now, were the materials and skill from the congregation of Israel to make it happen. God could have just sent down the tabernacle from heaven – complete and perfect in every detail, but instead He chose to allow God’s people to have a part in this special work. He could have also required that each Israelite contribute to the materials or labour, but He instead set forth this offering as an opportunity, not an obligation.
The Biblical record is that the people responded with great enthusiasm and energy. They were excited that God had chosen to give them a place of worship. I am not going to go through the whole scenario here, but I can tell you that the needs for the tabernacle were met in abundance – so much so, that Moses had issue an order to stop bringing more offerings – they had more than enough! (Subtle proof that Moses was not a Baptist!) God always blesses abundantly when people have willing hearts.
So, once again, we are witness what God can do, wants to do – if you and I will have hearts that are willing. It is a wonderful “heart condition” to possess. May the Lord help us to willingly surrender our hearts to Him.
